Tour of ‘Refuge and Renewal: Migration and British Art’

Wednesday 19 February 2020 at 1:15 pm to 2:00 pm

The Royal West of England Academy is holding a private tour for MMB members of its major exhibition, ‘Refuge and Renewal: Migration and British Art’. The exhibition explores the impact of migrant artists on art in Britain, taking a perspective across the past 150 years. It looks back at the crucial influence of émigrés who came from eastern and central Europe during the 1930s and 1940s, and explores the temporary exile of refugees from the Franco-Prussian War, the First World War and forward to the present, including refugees from war-torn Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan.

We have 15 tickets available so please contact mmb-sri@bristol.ac.uk if you would like to attend. The RWA’s head curator will be leading the tour, and attendees are free to stay on in the gallery afterwards. The event is organised by the MMB research challenge Imagination, Belonging, Futures.
